The size of the production tubing string plays a vital role m conducting oil and gas to the surface at an economic rate. Small-diameter tubing and subsurface control equipment always restrict the flow rate due to the high frictional pressure losses. Completion and workover operations can be even more complicated with small-diameter production tubing and casing strings because the reduced inside diameter of the tubing and the annular space between the casing and tubing make tool placement and operation very difficult. For these reasons, large-diameter production tubing and casing strings are always preferable.
